Self Defense

There are many forms of self defense but nothing comes close to using your physical body as a weapon. If you want to stay fit and at the same time learn to defend yourself in times of problem then why not learn martial arts? Aside from self defense there are in fact many advantages you can gain from studying martial arts. It can be very useful mentally and instinctively.

There are many types or forms of martial arts and depending on what our interest are you can choose any of the following:

Self Defense

1. Ninjutsu- This type of martial arts was first founded in Japan. It is known to be very lethal that is why it is banned in the Us. Ninjutsu is a unique method of thinking and using one's physical movements to defend oneself. Ninjutsu does not use any specific weapon for fighting, among the commonly used weapons in Ninjutsu are is the Bo or commonly called the Staff it is regularly six feet long, made of bamboo.

Self Defense

Another is the Bokken which is a wooden sword. The advantage of using a Boken sword over a metal sword is that Bokken is lighter to carry nearby the ninja's back.

2. Taekwondo- This is a Korean martial arts which was founded for self-defense, exercise, developoing one's thinking and physical alertness and lately as a sport enjoyed even by kids and elderly, in fact it is the national sport of South Korea and is included in their military training. The literal meaning of Taek Wondo is to charge with the use of foot and fist. Which can be seen from their quick, high and spinning foot movements when kicking or attacking an opponent.

The three commonly used techniques in taekwondo are the operate technique which includes the breathing of a practitioner, the freeing technique which is very foremost because it teaches a practitioner how to free himself when an attacker grabs him, and the termination technique which aims in holding the opponent in a helpless position on the floor.

3. Gatka- This type of martial arts uses a wide array of weapons and it is not only focused on developing a person's physical force rather it also involves his spirituality. Gatka was first founded in India and is linked to the religion Sikhism. History shows that Gatka was industrialized generally for self-defense by the Sikhs. In the 16th century when Mughal empire ruled over India they wanted to eradicate the Sikhs and the Hindus because of their religion. And it was while this time when one martial arts expert named Guru Gobind Singh Ji introduced the Gatka to the Sikhs.
