Combat Tai Chi for Self Defense

There's a coarse misconception in America that Tai Chi is only a set of exercises that emphasizes condition and well-being in much the same way that Yoga does. Unfortunately, this view is not only held by many in the normal public, but also by some who truly teach unavoidable aspects of Tai Chi. Although Tai Chi does have considerable condition benefits, it is also a deadly martial art that can be used for real self defense situations.

Tai Chi is truly an abbreviated form of the title of the art. It's full name is Tai Chi Chuan. In translation, this means Grand ultimate Fist. If population knew the full name of the art, it would be clear that Tai Chi is truly a fighting style and, what's more, a style that those who named it believed was best possible style for fighting.

Self Defense

But how does Tai Chi stack up against other arts when it comes to self defense? Self defense is a difficult topic to address because it is easy to believe that an art includes real self defense when in fact it does not. population who watch boxing or fighting matches might easily discontinue that someone who could compete in one of these matches must have real self defense potential or that in order to truly have self defense, you should focus on studying how to have Mma or Ufc fighting ability.

Combat Tai Chi for Self Defense

In reality, self defense is not much like an Mma or a Ufc fight. In fact, there are a lot of differences. In fighting matches, it is clear when a fight will take place and who is fighting. What's more, the population who set up the fights do their best to insure that fighters are relatively evenly matched in terms of weight. Participants select to fight and there are rules against unavoidable tactics so that competitors can walk away to fight other day without broken backs, gouged eyes or other serious injuries. These fights might last quite awhile as competitors exchange blows and wrestle to see who can overpower the opponent.

In street attacks, smart criminals do not attempt to play fair. In fact, quite the opposite. They want to avoid an exchange of blows so that they can get what they want without getting hurt. They will use surprise and will deliberately attempt to fight with someone who is weaker and smaller than they are. They may use weapons or team up with manifold opponents in order to fast overpower and harm their victim. Real street attacks can last for just seconds. There is not time for an exchange of blows. Unless you have the potential to fast knock out or injure an opponent with one contact, you do not have real self-defense ability. In fact, if you intend to exchange blows with an attacker the way you see arranged Mma or Ufc fights, unless you are very large and physically powerful, you might find yourself being fast injured or killed.

So against odds like these, how does martial Tai Chi compare? First, unlike other martial arts which emphasize maximizing corporeal strength, Tai Chi focuses on delivering as much damage as possible while using as dinky corporeal force as possible. This means that population who are older or weaker than your typical juiced-up martial arts guy can successfully institution the art. You may have seen demonstrations of an elderly master who, when charged by a much larger and stronger opponent, can send that opponent flying. This martial art gives real potential even when, physically speaking, the odds are bad.

What's more, Tai Chi can also allow its practitioners to deliver single-blow knockouts. Whereas other martial art forms can want an exchange of blows, a well-trained practitioner can fast take out an opponent. In a situation where there may be manifold attackers that must be dealt with fast so as to move on to the next opponent, this can make the contrast in the middle of life and death.

In order to use Tai Chi as a self defense art, you must go beyond the basic set of forms and get to the internal techniques that these forms are intended to use and also learn the combat applications of these forms and techniques. This might take years of study. However, because this art can be practiced by those who are older, this investment can yield of lifetime of safety rather than naturally creating a someone who is physically imposing in their youth but who does not truly have the potential to safe themselves later in life. Although you may be unlikely to see a master practitioner of this art competitive in the regulated ring of an Mma event, in terms of practical street ability, Tai Chi Chuan packs a real punch.

Self Defense Pressure Point

The body is full of self defense pressure points that, when attacked properly, can impose pain or dullness to a mugger or attacker. One of the best things women can learn during self defense is how to use pressure points in order to growth their chances of successfully defending themselves. Knowing where these pressure points are and how to assault them can make the contrast in the middle of life and death.

There are many distinct pressure points on the human body. There are several examples of a good self defense pressure point on just the human face. For example, place your finger on the side of your head, behind your ear lobe. There should be a little indentation. Push hard. In about 99% of the population, this will cause a shock of pain, as well as a natural reflex of pulling back. This can make a great self defense pressure point to assault in a close attack, especially in a case of an assault.

Self Defense

Another self defense pressure point on the face is near the back of the temple, also right by the ear. Trace your ear from back to front. Where the front portion of your ear meets your face, that's a pressure point. Put a thumb there and push, and you'll assuredly get a strong reaction from that self defense pressure point. Any place in the throat is also effective, given sufficient power will be able to stun your opponent and give you a chance to get away.

Self Defense Pressure Point

An often overlooked self defense pressure point that doesn't wish a thumb or a couple of fingers is nearby the collarbone. The collar bone is one of the easiest bones in the human body to break, and where the collar bone meets close to the throat is a great place to hit. Not only is that area sensitive as a pressure point, but with the throat and collar bone all in the same area, any solid hit there can have the desired effect.

Often times studying the distinct self defense pressure point is something that is taught in quick padded attacker self defense courses, or in unavoidable types of martial arts. studying the self defense pressure points are a great way of getting into self defense, and the knowledge that this studying brings makes any type of self defense you learn more effective. Combining self defense training with self defense pressure point will lead to a someone fully capable of defending themselves in bad situations.

Insanity As a Legal Defense in Criminal Cases

There are any ways on how a man can excuse himself from a confident crime. A man who is charged with a crime, need to have a extremely regarded criminal defense attorney to help him get straight through the case. Right after the accused seek counsel, the next step is to think of the defense that they must use on the court proceeding, to prove their innocence. There are discrete defenses that they can use. Some of it includes the presumption of innocence, design an alibi, proclaim self-defense and using insanity as a plea.

When the presumption of innocence is used, it is the prosecution who has a bigger task in looking evidences and witnesses to prove that the accused committed the crime. In the court of law, any accused man is presumed innocent until they are proven to be guilty of the crime. When the accused design an alibi, there must be al least a discover or evidence that you are not for real colse to when the crime happened. In using self-defense as an excuse, you must prove to the court that you were able to commit the crime out of the need to defend your life because you are in danger. The last defense will be discussed further.

Self Defense

Today, regardless of what state a man is or what part of the world they are at, insanity as a legal defense in court proceedings is now taken with full seriousness and just examination. Why is legal insanity being used by many habitancy as an excuse for a crime? This is because an insane man does not have the ability to think right and act right. An insane man does not know the law. The insane habitancy do not even think of themselves or the other people. A man is said to be insane when they have severe reasoning disease. They are totally excused from the crime that they have committed once they are proven by certified medical personnel.

Insanity As a Legal Defense in Criminal Cases

In cases wherein the client of a defense attorney is legally insane, they must prove to the court that the accused man is insane. any tests and examinations as well as testimonials can prove that the accused is truly insane. If the accused person, resides in Utah, he can have a Utah Defense Attorney, Utah criminal defense attorney, Utah criminal attorney, or defense attorney Utah that can help them prove the insanity of the accused person. A Ut Defense Attorney can get facts, test results and medical records that his client is legally insane.

Over the years, the way how the court sees legal insanity as a defense in court proceedings vary from time to time. However, today, roughly all went back to the correct definition of legal insanity. The way how the court rules towards an insane man before are automatic excused of the crime that was committed; but now, everything became stricter. In general, a man is said to be legally insane when they do not know what is right and what is wrong. This also means they do not know what is moral and immoral. Although many cases were dismissed because the accused is legally insane, the defense attorney must prove to the court the validity of insanity while the time that the crime was committed.

In any court proceeding, we cannot held a legally insane man to be responsible of his show the way because as we have mentioned, they do not know that what they are doing at the time of show the way is right or wrong. A legally insane man cannot think logically, in this regard, he is acquitted of the crime. After the case, what happen usually is that the insane man must endure psychiatric treatments. They are placed in a reasoning asylum for treatment. In cases that the insane man truly committed the crime but is not aware that he or she did it because of insanity, they are required to be held in a reasoning custom until they can no longer be a threat to anyone. Again, they can only be acquitted once a psychiatrist or a psychologist testifies his reasoning illness at the time of offense and a series of tests or reasoning evaluation.

On the other hand, the defense of having temporary insanity is hard to defend in the court of law. It will be extremely hard for the defense attorney to prove that his client is insane at the time that the crime was committed. The legal law finds it moral to submit the insane man for a medical and psychological treatment regardless if they are proven to commit the crime or not, because legal insanity as a defense means the man does not have the ability to think properly, they do not know right from wrong, and what is moral or not.

Verbal Self Defense - A primary Factor in Self Defense for Women

Verbal self defense, the use of your voice in a threatening situation, is an very leading tool in protecting yourself. How? Uncommon to favorite belief, criminals do not pounce on an private when the mood strikes them. They strike when they see an opening ready to them. If it's easy, they will take it. They will prey on those who are weak, unaware, and an simple target. Criminals will act on premeditation, or stalk their victims ahead of time before attacking. If you show that you are well-known with your surroundings, walk with confidence, and give off the impression of strength, a criminal will not want to work to fight you.

Keep you eyes on everyone. Just because they might not 'look' like an attacker, doesn't mean that some guy in a business suit can't be one. If someone is approaching you, look them in the eye, hold out your hands in front of you and yell "Stay Back!" or "Stop!" Most sexual assailants interviewed say that they leave a woman alone if she showed that she wasn't someone to be messed with or wasn't afraid to fight back.

Self Defense

It's called putting up a verbal boundary or verbal self defense. Many who have used this as part of their self defense training say they were amazed when they stepped toward a threatening stranger and yelled "Back Off!" in a strong, assertive, projecting voice. And the would-be assailant did just that.

Verbal Self Defense - A primary Factor in Self Defense for Women

Using pepper sprays can work in the same manner. Just by aiming at a potential attacker and yelling, "I have pepper spray!" can be a deterrent. That's if it is in your hand at the time.

Pepper sprays are only effective if properly used. Telling your would-be assailant that you have pepper spray... And it's at the bottom of your purse is not effectively using it, or any weapon or self-defense product, for that matter. Either its mace, a stun gun, or even your keys, have it easily available, in your hand. More self defense products can be found online at on this great website http://www.safetyquestproducts.com

Knowing how to use these devices also plays a huge role in protection. You must know how the gismo works and be well-known with it. How? Practice. Practice. Practice.

When using mace, go face and shoot a tree. See how the pepper spray assuredly works. See the length it takes to reach a target. If you're going to use your keys, pre-plan ahead of time just exactly where on an attacker you would jab them. The eyes and throat are frightful targets. Tell yourself, "I will use this if I feel my life is in danger - No Question." and without hesitation.

There are places that assuredly have computer simulated mace institution rooms. They are very life-like. These are the same simulation rooms that police and safety officials use for their own training. Check with you local law promulgation to see if they are ready in your area.

This type of training helps to schedule the mind while adrenal-stress. Or someone else form is called Body Alarm Reaction (B.A.R). You must train the mind with a stressful situation or adrenaline response to know just how you will react while an actual confrontation or attack. How you react in a B.A.R. Occasion will let you know if you'll hesitate in a life or death situation.

Knowing how verbal self defense works can be a frightful safety tool for woman in preventing them from falling prey to an advent of a stranger. Verbal self defense is also someone else way to build your trust in yourself. It allows women to see the power of their voice, the safety they can have from their voice, and to not feel threatened by anyone.

Self Defense

There are many forms of self defense but nothing comes close to using your physical body as a weapon. If you want to stay fit and at the same time learn to defend yourself in times of problem then why not learn martial arts? Aside from self defense there are in fact many advantages you can gain from studying martial arts. It can be very useful mentally and instinctively.

There are many types or forms of martial arts and depending on what our interest are you can choose any of the following:

Self Defense

1. Ninjutsu- This type of martial arts was first founded in Japan. It is known to be very lethal that is why it is banned in the Us. Ninjutsu is a unique method of thinking and using one's physical movements to defend oneself. Ninjutsu does not use any specific weapon for fighting, among the commonly used weapons in Ninjutsu are is the Bo or commonly called the Staff it is regularly six feet long, made of bamboo.

Self Defense

Another is the Bokken which is a wooden sword. The advantage of using a Boken sword over a metal sword is that Bokken is lighter to carry nearby the ninja's back.

2. Taekwondo- This is a Korean martial arts which was founded for self-defense, exercise, developoing one's thinking and physical alertness and lately as a sport enjoyed even by kids and elderly, in fact it is the national sport of South Korea and is included in their military training. The literal meaning of Taek Wondo is to charge with the use of foot and fist. Which can be seen from their quick, high and spinning foot movements when kicking or attacking an opponent.

The three commonly used techniques in taekwondo are the operate technique which includes the breathing of a practitioner, the freeing technique which is very foremost because it teaches a practitioner how to free himself when an attacker grabs him, and the termination technique which aims in holding the opponent in a helpless position on the floor.

3. Gatka- This type of martial arts uses a wide array of weapons and it is not only focused on developing a person's physical force rather it also involves his spirituality. Gatka was first founded in India and is linked to the religion Sikhism. History shows that Gatka was industrialized generally for self-defense by the Sikhs. In the 16th century when Mughal empire ruled over India they wanted to eradicate the Sikhs and the Hindus because of their religion. And it was while this time when one martial arts expert named Guru Gobind Singh Ji introduced the Gatka to the Sikhs.

Our Criminal Courts - The Role of Defense Counsel

Imagine yourself as a young adult, pulled from friends and family and called upon to defend your country in a foreign land. One day, while on guard duty with your platoon, you're suddenly surrounded by a group of hostile, threatening people--a jeering, taunting mob, probably armed, and stirred to anger by faceless voices in the darkness calling on them to fire. A shot rings out--your platoon returns fire--and the next day, you're hauled into court and expensed with murder. Your case is set for trial, and the only jury colse to is made up of the very same mob that was threatening you the night before.

The significant Role of Defense Counsel

Self Defense

Defense lawyers are called upon by our system of justice for a variety of tasks. They clarify to their clients what is happening, and make sure that each defendant knows his rights, and is fully aware of what is happening. As defense counsel, the lawyer is expensed with protecting those rights, and ensuring that the client receives the protections afforded to every habitancy by our laws. The lawyer will take over dealing with the prosecution, call and contemplate any witnesses in court, and do everything the law allows to keep his client from harm--or, at the least, to minimize the damage. This means consuming the prosecution's case, its conduct, and on occasion, the very laws that govern the case.

Our Criminal Courts - The Role of Defense Counsel

We often take these protections for granted, or scoff at them as mere "technicalities" that do slight but allow criminals to fly justice. It is easy, and often tempting, to dismiss defense lawyers (and, for that matter, all lawyers) as pro hacks, whose only function is to confuse juries and confound courts. And sometimes, when defending habitancy who are clearly guilty, it may seem that defense lawyers are a needless extravagance, who only get in the way of protecting habitancy from the worst elements of society. But just as crimes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, criminals are often indistinguishable from the lowly citizen, a fact that some of us only come to realize when we find ourselves seated at the defendant's table, with fingers pointing at us. It is then that we realize just how significant a vigorous and independent defense bar is to a free society--allowing lowly citizens to challenge the actions of their own government. Viewed in this light, the bedrock of American liberty is our right to use the rules we have all agreed to live by to defend ourselves in a social setting, where the actions of the same government that seeks to condemn us must prove that we have broken the law.

Defense lawyers don't exist just to make everybody else's life difficult. And their job is a critical, if often misunderstood safeguard against tyranny. Just dream what would happen if the government could decree whom to jail--without the messiness of subjecting their actions to the test of law. The freedom of all of us would be in the hands of government bureaucrats--people, like all others, who have their likes, dislikes, biases, and petty grievances.

A Safeguard of Liberty

In large measure, the law exists to safe us from bullies. But without the means of consuming the actions of our own government, there would be slight protection for the common habitancy against a bully who happened to wear a policeman's badge, or a prosecutor's suit, or who happened to enjoy the friendship of person for whom justice means doing right by his friends. And if you should ever find yourself on the wrong end of performance taken by the government, you will find that the capability to resort to the law to defend yourself will be critical. Among the first casualties of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia was the independence of the courts and the legal profession. Once those bulwarks against tyranny fell, there was nothing to safe common habitancy against the unbridled assertion of governmental power--no matter how misguided, petty, or malevolent it might prove to be. But it is the rare government that will charge its own citizens directly: instead, the attacks come against marginal groups, ones that nobody would rise to defend, and who seem to everybody to be a threat to the protection of the state. Unfortunately, those threats never seemed to end; and so the knocks on doors of enemies of the state continued, as the government kept finding new enemies to fight, and new threats to fear.

The example cited at the beginning is from one of the most famed confrontations in American History--told from the side of the defendant, rather than the victim. It was the Boston Massacre, which arose at a time of growing tensions in the middle of the Colonies and Great Britain. The encounter in the middle of soldiers and the angry mob led to shots--nobody knows for sure who fired the first one, although some testimony indicated that it was a terrified British soldier--and in a country without a strong defense bar, the young soldiers would likely have been swiftly taken out and hung, if not by the Law, then by the mob itself.

Thanks to a courageous Boston attorney, the defendants received a fair trial and most were acquitted on grounds of self-defense, the sentiments of the mob notwithstanding. A concentrate were convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter and released--the proper verdict when emotions and provocations don't quite excuse a homicide, but make it less an outrage and more a fallible human reaction to greatest stress.

The defense lawyer was a foremost member of the state bar, who later served his country in a variety of ways--statesman, ambassador, signer of the announcement of Independence, and the second president of the new United States.

It was John Adams...patriot and rebel, for the defense.

Tips on How to preclude Kidnapping and protect Yourself

Kidnapping is a very real threat, wherever you may be in the world or anyone city you may live in. It's not just a problem in third world or politically unstable countries. Each year, tens of thousands of adults and children go missing due to kidnapping, the guess for which may not all the time be related to money. To protect yourself and your family, here are tips on how to forestall kidnappers from victimizing you:

Find alternative routes
If you think there is a threat, find other streets or highways you can use when driving from home to work and back. Kidnappers rely on your routine to track you down and then look for a time when you're most vulnerable to an attack.

Self Defense

Do not accept lifts offered by strangers
Once you get into a stranger's car, you are at their mercy. They could whether incapacitate you or hold you hostage and you might not have an chance to defend yourself.

Tips on How to preclude Kidnapping and protect Yourself

Do not leave your doors open
Kidnappers don't all the time snatch their victims off the streets. They can sometimes begin the attack right in your own home. To forestall kidnapping in your own property, close your doors and gates and install locks or alarms. The more secured you are inside, the more difficult you will be to abduct.

Let person know where you are
If you must meet a new acquaintance, make sure person knows where you're going and who you're meeting. Leave word with a house member or friend where you're headed and if possible, give the name of the person you're about to meet and other details you might know.

Meet them in a crowded place or somewhere other habitancy can see you. Heavy human traffic is a major inhibitive for kidnappers and may just save your life.

Tell your child to never talk to strangers
Train your children to avoid strangers, even if they seem kindly and offer gifts. If a stranger asks for help, tell your child to refuse and to call the attentiveness of an adult immediately. If a gift is being offered, tell them not to accept anything.

Arm yourself with self-defense weapons
Other than a gun, there are weapons and gadgets you can carry with you that are very sufficient for preventing kidnapping. Pepper sprays, for example, are very sufficient for stopping an attacker and giving you enough time to incapacitate him/her and escape.

A stun gun is also a very prominent self-defense weapon to bring to help forestall a kidnapping. A stun gun is capable of bringing a enough bolt of electricity to shock an attacker, rendering him/her helpless for a few high-priced minutes so you have time to run away.

Feeling Worthless - Here's How To Build Up Your Self-Worth And Self Respect

I want to get straight to the heart of this topic, because I firmly believe that there is a easy three-step advent that can cure feelings of worthlessness, even if you've felt crushed by those feelings for many years.

That's right: a cure.

Self Defense

It may not surprise you to learn that feeling worthless is very coarse among women. You roughly well know that. In fact, feeling worthless is perhaps the most inevitable indication of illness of low self-esteem. But it's also one of the easiest to overcome.

Feeling Worthless - Here's How To Build Up Your Self-Worth And Self Respect

Let me provoke you for a occasion by production a bold statement about worthlessness. You may want to reject it out-of-hand, but I urge you to hear me out on this point because I'm going to show you how to prove this statement is true!

Feelings of worthlessness are entirely subjective. They are all in the mind. They have no basis in reality. They do not constitute a question that requires "fixing", and you can choose to stop feeling worthless simply by occasion your mind.

Fixing your self-esteem as a whole is not quite so easy, but nevertheless it is a reality for every woman.

Ok, I know that some of you are now cross with me. You may even want to scream at me "it's all very well for you to say that, but I've been feeling worthless all of my life and I have no idea how to stop and it's driving me Crazy and, and, oh I'm so sick of being Me!"

Whether you're cross or not, I'd like you to think considered about what I've got to say next. It's about how we might assess what something is worth.

What's the easiest thing to value?

How about a ten-dollar bill, in pristine condition, uncrumpled, never having changed hands?

It's worth 10 dollars, right? To you, to me, to anybody. Imagine sealing that newborn, crispy ten-dollar bill in a watertight package and dropping it in the middle of a deep lake. What's it worth now? Well, it's still got an intrinsic value of 10 dollars, but in order to hand it over to a storekeeper in transfer for some food, you'd have to rent a pretty sophisticated boat, some fancy detection equipment, and maybe a team of skilled divers to get that box back. And that would cost you far more than 10 dollars.

At the lowest of a lake, your perfect, crispy ten-dollar bill is worth less than nothing.

What's that got to do with you?

You had some intrinsic value when you were born. Everybody does. You had a possible capacity to make the world a better place, to bring joy and happiness to others, to experience a sense of emotional, spiritual, and bodily fulfilment.

That was worth something. It still is. Because you still have a possible capacity to do those things.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

- Marianne Williamson -

But what if you're an exception? What if your parents, the other kids at school, your ex-husband, or the rest of community has moderately knocked all of that possible worth out of you?

Well, they haven't. I can be sure of that, because it's impossible to take away a living person's capacity to add value to the world.
Only you can suppress that value. Only you can decree to hide yourself away, feeling empty and alone. Only you can put yourself in the position of a ten-dollar bill at the lowest of a lake.

Do you see what power you have, right there in your own hands?

No matter how tough your childhood, no matter how rotten your luck, you can choose to enrich the world every day simply by the way you interact with others, by the way you make caring decisions, and by the way you feel about yourself.

If you're feeling worthless right now, then I'd like to ask you a question. What proactive steps have you been taking recently to overcome those feelings? Many, many women - when I put this examine to them - talk with something along the lines of "um, well, nothing well because I feel stuck in a rut".

Those women, all of them, are well not happy that they feel like that. But feeling like that is a habit that has become - roughly paradoxically - a source of relieve to them. Why? For one of two reasons:

  1. Feeling worthless is a safe option because it reduces the amount of pain you suffer when things go wrong. If you already know that you're no good and that no one will fall in love with you, or give you a job, or even care adequate to listen to you, then when a rejection wings its way towards you - which it well will because it happens to all of us - then you're better ready than most. You can say: "Ah ha, you can't ruin my life because I already knew this was going to happen; I already knew that you didn't well love me/want me/value me!"
  2. Feeling worthless is an easy option; if you're worthless there's no need to try to do well and effect in the things that matter to you because there is simply no point. Also, if you act as if your opinions and your desires are all worthless then habitancy leave you alone. If you say you have no powerful skills or talents then there is no need to apply them. If you say that you are a useless, hopeless nobody then habitancy will expect far less from you. And just maybe you could get lots of condolence and perhaps even other person (on a white horse in shining armour) arrival to your saving to sort your life out for you.

Deep down, all of us well Want to feel valued

But, the harsh truth is, we will feel valued only if we are willing to contribute something to the world nearby us. And either we contribute anyone or not is a choice. Our choice.

A few of you might be annoyed with me at this point because you're still feeling worthless but you do not agree that you are either selecting the safe, easy options or finding for a condolence vote. If so, let's take a look at your logic.

Your annoyance can only be caused by the injustice of my suggesting you are selecting the "safe" or "easy" option. You're saying to me "Don't put me down. I'm not like that. I Am Worth More Than That!"

Exactly my point! Please remember, I am not the one doubting your self-worth, you are. All I'm doing is pointing out that if you're feeling worthless then it simply means that you are not doing as well in the areas that matter to you and therefore you need to invest in your self-esteem. There are no exceptions: if you want to feel like a worthwhile human being then you have to well work at it like Everybody else and never give up on yourself.

It's up to you know to talk the fact the all human beings are capable of adding value to society, together with You. As an adult there are no excuses for saying things like "I'm a worthless, stupid, lazy, ugly, useless, pathetic, helpless woman" because - as an adult - you now have the selection not to be any of these things.

All you have to do is talk your real value, accept it and then make a commitment to preserve it and build upon it.

George Bernard Shaw once said:

"The habitancy who get on in this world are the habitancy who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them."

Woolly-thinking in the Self-esteem Movement

Remember that old adage about the road to somewhere nasty being paved with good intentions? Here are just two examples.

  • The Self-esteem Movement has attempted to wrap us all in cotton-wool for years now in the hope of protecting our precious self-esteem. It's the "self-esteem is our birthright" argument. Sadly, the only habitancy who cling to this argument are habitancy with low self-esteem who either have no idea how to enhance matters, or lack the will to do so. The argument seduces them, because it appears to hold out hope that "someone else" might somehow take responsibility for their lack of self-esteem and magically grant higher self-esteem upon them, like a court awarding compensation. Believe me, this won't happen, and nor should it. If you've ever been even slightly seduced by this argument, try asking person whom you think to possess strong self-esteem either she believes it was her birthright or either she had to earn it for herself. You can guess what she'll tell you.
  • The Self-esteem Movement seems to want us to believe that both self-esteem and self-worth are "binary" - that is, they exist in only one of two states like a light-switch that can be on or off. You've either got self-esteem or you haven't. Of course, this fits well with the first point, but it's simply Not True. Your self-esteem is more like a mosaic - made up of lots of diminutive pieces, some of which can be damaged or missing to the detriment of the whole. You can make small improvements (baby steps, if you like) in one area, or in any areas at the same time. either way, the full, mosaic will become more defined, stronger, and more appealing.

The best path forward

Thankfully, I sense that the world is starting to reject the "teachings" of the Self-esteem Movement. Their good intentions have not delivered the results that were hoped for. There is a far better path to tread, and it leads to somewhere meaningful. It's a path that anyone can effect if they want to. The signpost showing the way is this:

Self-esteem = doing well x feelgood factor

The truth of the matter is that No-One is worthless but some habitancy are worth more than others.

Of policy it's true that some habitancy are born with bodily features that are ordinarily considered more beautiful than the mean person's bodily features. Other habitancy are more intelligent, some are more athletic but none of this is anyone like as foremost as either you make the most of who you are today and what you've got going for you right now. If you do this, and keep doing this day-in, day-out for the rest of your life, I can guarantee that you will never feel worthless again. You'll be far too busy adding value here, there and everywhere to stop and wallow in self-pity.

Right at the starting of this report I promised you a cure for worthlessness. Here it is, in three easy steps:

  1. Acknowledge your real value by writing a list of your strengths, attributes and the good things that you do each day. If you've taken the extreme Self-esteem Test, then refer to your Self-esteem Profile and the Self-help Programs recommended to you to remind yourself of both your strengths and the areas you still need to work on. Accept this list as your starting point.
  2. Make a commitment now to build your self-esteem and keep adding inevitable things to your life every day and find it within yourself to eliminate things from the negative side. Do more smiling, share more kind thoughts and caring emotions, be curious, optimistic, and courageous, work hard and have fun. And cut the time and energy you expend in whingeing, moaning, or feeling sorry for yourself.
  3. Be your own judge. You know yourself better than anyone and now that you're an adult it is up to you to decree your worth and to effort to live up to realistic expectations of yourself.

When I was living and working in Australia a few years ago I heard for the first time the expression "tall poppy syndrome". It captures the opinion that small-minded habitancy often like to put down those who strive to do well because "tall poppies" make diminutive weeds seem even smaller!

Don't be afraid to be a tall poppy and enjoy the sun shining down on you.

Self Defense - Surviving Mountain Lion Encounters

As with all things of nature, mountain lion attacks seem to ebb and flow. As I found out today the weather has as much to do with their appearance as anything. When the weather is dry they are driven to lower elevations to find water and along the way some food.

Mountain lions are much different in their tactics than bears. Bears of course are much bigger than mountain lions which can get to 120 pounds or so. Bears just come at you using their surprisingly quick reflexes and brute size and strength.

Self Defense

Mountain lions stalk their prey. They oftentimes are upon a victim before they know it. They use stealth and speed. They go for the head or neck and a quick kill.

Self Defense - Surviving Mountain Lion Encounters

I would never go into the back country without at least a large bear pepper spray. The bear spray most ordinarily used has a range of up to 30 ft. Never. Mountain lions and bears have highly sensitive noses and don't like having them abused. They reply quickly to a dose of pepper spray which is exactly what you want.

Here is someone else kind of defense that works for mountain lions. Because you are probably bigger anyhow, they can be bluffed. If you spot a mountain lion, stand as tall as you can, stick out your arms to appear larger, and talk loudly and aggressively.

Throw anyone you can find rocks, branches, anyone you can find if you can. Do Not run or turn your back. If anything, threaten the mountain lion by appearing to enlarge toward it but not too close. And of course, have your pepper spray at the ready.

If a mountain lion is able to sneak up on you and assault you, fight back with all your might-your life may be in the balance. You will probably surprise the cat with some opposition and he'll probably leave.

Top 10 Upper Human Body Pressure Points For Self Defense

In any fight situation, (street fights, karate fights, etc.) inherent body weapons consist of short jabs and strikes with elbows, knees, and hands. The key to winning any confrontation or street fight is to be aggressive and merge your attack on the opponent's vital points in order to end the fight as soon as possible. A knowledge of human body pressure points can be your key to survival.

One way to perform this is to focus on your opponent's most vital areas, or pressure points. A body is separated into three main sections: high, middle and low. Each of these sections contains vital targets. The effects of astonishing these targets could be brutal. In this article, let's take a look at the pressure point of the High Section. This section includes the head and neck and is the most risky target area. Areas for attack might include:

Self Defense

(1) Top of the head. The skull is weakest where the front cranial bones join, right between the eyes. A considerable attack could cause trauma to the cranial cavity, perhaps resulting in unconsciousness and hemorrhage.

(2) Temple. The bones of the skull are weak at the temple and an artery and large nerve lie close to the skin. A attack here could cause unconsciousness or concussion.

(3) Eyes. A small poke in the eyes causes unruly watering and blurred sight. A forceful jab could cause brief blindness or the eyes could be gouged out. Death could succeed if the fingers jab through the thin bone behind the eyes and into the brain.

(4) Nose. Any blow here could verily break the thin bones of the nose, causing ultimate pain and eye watering.

(5) Under the nose. A blow to the nerve center, which is close to the covering under the nose, could cause great pain and watery eyes.

(6) Jaw. A blow to the jaw could break or dislocate it. If the facial nerve is pinched against the lower jaw, one side of the face may be paralyzed.

(7) Chin. A blow to the chin could cause paralysis, mild concussion or unconsciousness. The jawbone acts as a lever that could send the force of a blow to the back of the brain where the cardiac and respiratory mechanisms are controlled.

(8) Back of the ears and base of the skull. A moderate blow to the back of the ears or the base of the skull could cause unconsciousness by the jarring succeed on the back of the brain. However, a considerable blow could cause a concussion or brain hemorrhage and death.

(9) Throat. A considerable blow to the front of the throat could cause death by crushing the windpipe. A forceful blow causes ultimate pain and gagging or vomiting.

(10) Side of neck. A sharp blow to the side of the neck causes unconsciousness by shock to the carotid artery, jugular vein, and vagus nerve. For maximum effect, the blow should be focused below and slightly in front of the ear. A less considerable blow causes involuntary muscle spasms and intense pain. The side of the neck is one of the best targets to use to drop an opponent immediately or to disable him temporarily to close him later.

The Best Gun (For Home Defense)

As a young hunter then a soldier and old Policeman I've been colse to weapons most all my life and to me they are just tools machines if you will, machines that have to be respected. But for my wife well... She was just plain scared to the bone of the tools of my trade. But years back hearing me talk with the guys about work and the break-ins, the home invasions and other heinous acts that happen to good citizen she ultimately asked me to advise something she could use.

I instantly replied a Shotgun is your best defense and my small wife launched into a ten small dissertation as to why that was not her weapon of choice. Once she ended her small tirade I asked her if I could just state my case. I knew I didn't have much time so I said; "Honey" that always helps. I explained the Shotgun I am talking about is small only 26 inches long and it doesn't weigh much and the stellar point about this machine is you don't need bullets. She worries because of the children in the house and those who visit.

Self Defense

I prolonged a Shotgun is a versatile small gun and has been colse to in one form or another since guns were invented and since we still use them today it speaks volumes for their consistency.
They can fire dangerous loads sure, but they can also shoot out bean bags or naturally blanks. The point I was trying to make was nearly all men especially the bad guys know what a Shotgun is and the sight of the weapon can make a big mean nasty man turn to mush and when you charge the gun or put a bullet in the chamber to shoot it. The Shotgun has a definite sound kind of a loud click slam whack sound. When you hear it you know it and the sound will fill a man with fear.

The Best Gun (For Home Defense)

The next week I took her to the range with her small new pistol grip shotgun and we learned all about the machine I told her if you hear person breaking in the house or a stranger comes to the door call 911 first then just go back to the bedroom and grab the tool off the hooks above the sliding doors in the closet put two blank rounds in the tube and naturally ask the person trying to gain passage to the house; Who is It? If the reply is not what you wanted to hear naturally say I have a gun and I know how to use it. If they keep trying to come in rack the shotgun Click-Slam at this point be prepared to fire the weapon aim it towards the ceiling and Bam they are very loud let one go. The blanks will do some damage to the ceiling but I can always fix that.

When the Police arrive put the weapon down before answering the door. Today she is comfortable keeping the shotgun loaded with bird shot high up in the closet on hooks the kids don't even know it's up there. For added safety she had me install a straightforward gun lock that can be really removed. She feels safe and frankly so do I, she evens looks forward to going to the range with me. Wonder if I can talk her into shooting my magnum... Naw!

4 of the Best Self Defense Weapons finally Reviewed!

So you want to carry and own self defence weapons that you could use without fear, or concern for your attackers safety. You also want these tools to be concealable, and have them stored at home, in your car and on your person.

Within this extra narrative I will divulge the distinct types of self defence weapons that you can use, and the implications of laws if you use them.

Self Defense

Self defence weapons #1 - Knife or edged weapon. This weapon is typically designed for people who could plunge a blade into a someone attacking them, without icy up in fear or shock over the performance of stabbing someone. Legally this is assault with a deadly weapon and can get you some jail time, not to mention you can end up killing your attacker.

4 of the Best Self Defense Weapons finally Reviewed!

Self defence weapons #2 - Pepper spray. This weapon flares up the mucous membranes in your nose, mouth and throat. It also causes a burning sensation in your eyes and it hurts to breathe. The effects last 20 minutes. The pepper spray canister is small and concealable and gives you up to 6 feet leverage.

Self defence weapons #3 - Tazers. They come in hand held close combat styles, as well as gun styles that shoot hooked electric charged hooks into your attacker. It will paralyze your assailant in pain but only lasts a few minutes. I would propose the pepper spray for longer continuing effects.

Self defence weapons #4 - Steel Batons. I propose you have this handy weapon in your bedroom when sleeping at night, an extendable baton gives you leverage by 3 feet and is a painful impact weapon that I extremely recommend.

Choose self defence weapons you are comfortable with you could use in a life or death emergency.

Self-Sabotage: The Opposite of Self-Care

Have you ever gone out of your way to Not take care of yourself? Does it ever seem like you're working against yourself? Do you ever ask yourself "Why did I do that??".

My "inner saboteur" loves to tell me "leave the dishes, you can do them later.". This is particularly harmful for me for two reasons. One is that I'm very affected by clutter in my environment. I never feel quite as motivated to take care of myself when there are dirty dishes on my counter. The second hypothesize is that more dishes mean a longer time standing at the sink, which causes me physical discomfort.

Self Defense

The dictionary definition of sabotage is "an act or process tending to hamper or hurt" or "deliberate subversion". Hmmm. Why on earth would we sabotage ourselves? That's a involved answer. And a uncomplicated one. We pick to.

Self-Sabotage: The Opposite of Self-Care

Sometimes it's so frightening to imagine changing, growing or production conscious choices that we deliberately hamper our own efforts. "I make choices every exiguous of every day". "My life is up to me". Those are intimidating thoughts. And doing things the way we've always done them feels safe and comforting.

So how do you deal with your self-sabotage? The first step is to identify how you're sabotaging yourself. For me, realizing the supervene that the dishes had on me was hugely important. Putting "do your dishes usually so they don't build up" into my list of daily practices has had a big impact on my self-care. It's brought the issue into the forefront and helped me to think about it as often as I needed to.

To start, generate two columns on a piece of paper. On the left, list the wholesome habits that you would like to be doing. Now, think about times in your life when you may have tried to implement them. What happened? In the right column, write down next to each wholesome habit the actions or thoughts that stopped you from doing it or retention it up.

Think carefully and take accountability where it's due! Yes, there are other population in your life who sway how you spend your time. And, you still always had and have a choice.

Now you have a list of ways that you may be sabotaging yourself - congratulations! Please don't judge yourself or use this as evidence to fuel your inner saboteur, whose favourite saying may be "You can't do this". You Can do this! This list is your line of defense against your inner saboteur. Everything's out in the open, just like with my dishes.

The next step is to generate your own self-care plan - a list of daily practices to foil your "inner saboteur" - and institute the wholesome habits that will make you feel more energized, relaxed and balanced.

In the meantime, I've got some dishes to do...

Self-Sabotage: The Opposite of Self-Care

Self Defense For Teen Age Girls and Young Women When You Have to Fight Off a Sexual Attacker!

Girls and woman listen up, these self-defense tips and advice could save your life. Most sexual attacks, assaults, and rapes occur against woman and girls in the middle of the ages of 16-26 years old. Statistics are horrible for attacks roughly 1 out of 4 girls will be raped in your lifetime, and of the rapes that are reported, 77% of the victims knew their attacker.

That means the one who is more likely to assault you could be a male relative, male friend, mom or sister's boyfriend, or a date rape. I don't want you to be a victim, ever. Read this article and pass it nearby to all your friends so that you can survive, and you can help person else.

Self Defense

The first thing that you need to do is get prepared. Any environment could be a moment of assault so be aware. Be aware of Who is nearby you. I repeat this for you! It could be a male relative, so do not assume, just because you are alone with your friend's dad that you are safe, if you are sitting on the couch in your bra and panties, or you just stepped out of the shower in their house. Most rapists or sexual predators are opportunistic in nature. They see an opportunity and they jump on it, knowing that they won't be caught. A sexual attacker or predator is banking on your embarrassment, and being too embarrassed you won't speak up. News Flash! When you do have the courage to speak up, probably you are Not going to be believed anyway! It will be your word against his. Let's suppose that he is an older more excellent appearing gentleman, if anyone holds it to be true, they will assume that you wanted it, and you instigated the sexual seduction.

Self Defense For Teen Age Girls and Young Women When You Have to Fight Off a Sexual Attacker!

Since this previously happened to me by a male relative, I will tell you right up that nobody believed me either. Even not knowing your name, I believe that it happened to you, and it might happen to your friend too. Right now, I'm going to give you some self-defense tips that will knock your attacker on his _ _ _!

Every moment from now on, I want you to become more aware of where you are, with whom you are with, and what if any are some of the tools that you can use for your own self-defense. First off, do not gift opportunities for these perverts! Cover up, and do not flaunt all things you got, when in male firm even gay males. Wherever you find yourself, look around, and scrutinize where any exits are and consideration if they legitimately work? Windows, doors, fire escapes etc.

Awareness. Let's talk about your neighborhood for a moment. Be aware of where you're walking ladies. Stop texting or get off the cell phone if you are walking in an isolated or wooded area. Look at the area, and note where person might hide. Look out for underground doorways, a patch of woods, or trees, under a bridge, beside an isolated staircase straight through the woods, behind some hedges or bushes. Be extra cautious if you Have to walk straight through deserted areas. Try to walk in pairs. Be aware of high car traffic areas, and sections of town that are very suitable to cars stopping or direct passage to freeways, or turnpikes. Watch out for short cuts over isolated areas, fields, old factories. Those areas gift opportunity if a sexual predator wants to throw you in his truck or car. Don't go alone if you can avoid it, and don't walk there at night.

What do you have in your purse or on your person that could be a great weapon? Here's a few examples:

Your Keys. Hold the key in the middle of your two fingers with the sharp end pointing out. Use it to jab or stab into the groin area, or eye area. Hold on tightly so that you don't drop it.

Hair Spray. Spray in the eyes, and when he is momentarily blinded kick him or knee him as hard as you can in the groin, and follow up with a fist directly into his nose. Don't throw a punch from the side or with a swing.

Punch straight from your chest, or body, because he may see the punch arrival if you try a swinging punch, and block it. If he goes down, don't run blindly, you should know to where you are running. Don't run into a dead end, or a trap.

Don't get cornered in an alley. He may not be alone, so be aware of a tag team play with a second or third attacker.

Pepper Spray. If you have pepper spray, spray it in his eyes, and do the same thing, punch or kick him in the groin, or stomp on the instep (highest point on top of foot) with your heel.

Sharp Metal Nail File.  Jam it into his groin or try to stab him in one eye. Use your other hand to whether punch him in the groin or grab his balls. If he grabs both your hands, use your knee into his groin and then follow with a foot stomp. If that doesn't work, you jam your heel into his knee cap. Keep focusing on one, since you may have already caused damage and pain there. But hit any one that you can reach.

Head Butt. I don't propose this unless in a desperate situation. If he has both your hands, and you can't reach him with your feet, use the part of your forehead that starts your hairline. Pull backwards a little and then slam that part of your head, directly into his nose, or chin. Twist your arms and hands in towards your body and then throw closed fists (like hammers) into his nose, followed by: swiftly swing your arms and fists out and down to the sides of your chest or hips, and slam both fists into his groin.

The mall poses lots of hazards and opportunities for attacks. Where? Back exit doors that are in a more isolated part of the mall can be a good leave route for abductions. Doors that lead into storehouse areas of stores, can be a potential target spot. Parking garages. My advice, don't walk alone or end up there by yourself. Tell person you trust well, exactly where you are going to be even if you are going to the ladies-room by yourself. Make sure that person comes looking for you after a unavoidable pre-established time. If you go in alone, check the stalls. Check to see if you see legs, and shoes look masculine or out of place. Check to see if the door opens or it seems to lock, or is blocked in some manner. It could be a set up. Don't get into texting while you're alone there, a distracted woman is easy target. In the mall hallways, the lowest of a fire extinguisher, if one is available, and you can loosen it, from the wall, is a nice hard object to slam into his face, or swing up into his groin. Your heavy purse swung hard into his groin can be a temporary determent to your attacker. A closed, flat hard cell phone, slammed into his groin can be very effective, to break away and run.

Other things that you might have on you or in your purse:

Ornamental Hair Pins, with sharp combs or hair-pins. Remember: Eyes, groin, knees, and feet.

Heavy Hair Brush Smash into his nose, and or bring it up into his groin. It may sound strange but some of us girls have silverware in bigger bags to eat our lunch on the go. If that is you, jam the fork into his eye, or into the back of his hand, stick him in the groin, stomach or top of his leg, on the upper thigh close to the groin area. That hurts! follow with a second blow, or hit. Remember he is attacking you, and he only has a small window of opportunity before you are able to leave or get someone's attention to help you. Listen closely! Once you start fighting him! It's for your life! Don't give up until you are free and safe!

Cars. If you are being stalked or person is pulling you into a car, fight like mad with all the above techniques. If you are in the car, of an acquaintance or date, who starts something, you still have some tools around.

The cigarette lighter. Push the hot end into his eye or back of hand, or side of neck. If your other hand is free, punch him in the nose. Punch from the chest. Knee him in the groin. Spit in his face, and punch him. Scratch or claw his eyes and face. Use your elbow, and drive it back into his ribs, or groin if you can reach. Swing your elbow up into his chin or nose.

The sharp end of an ice scraper slammed into face, or groin, ear. anyone you can reach can be a potential tool. If there is a lock-stick for the steering wheel see if you can smash him in the face or over the head. But be faithful with this one, because he could use it against you. Tools in the car's glove box like an crisis glass breaking and seatbelt tool. Jam it in his face, or groin, slam it against the side of his head. The point is he is expecting to have the upper hand and the element of surprise on his side. He is probably not expecting you to reach in the glove box or under the seat for a hard or sharp object with which to fight him off. But, that is exactly how you have to think and you have to take action! You have to fight if it comes down to it! Be aware!

React very quickly! Be ready if you are attacked! If you strike, do it hard and fierce! Don't hesitate! If the first blow doesn't take him down or stop him, hit him again! If he falls back use your feet and legs, and drive a well-placed foot or both feet into his groin or body. Keep kicking out. Try to smash the glass with your shoes or feet. If you have something hard in your hands try to break the window. You may break the window and or get someone's attention. I sincerely hope that you never have to use any of these tips, but upon reading this article, memorize every tip that you find here. They may well save your life or your friend's life.

Self Defense Weapons - What Is The Best Weapon For Self Defense?

If you are mental of purchasing a gun, or other "self-protection" device such as pepper spray or an alarm, then you are obviously concerned about your personal safety. You know it is essential to learn how to defend yourself, now more than ever! Today, not only do you have to worry about criminals, but now terrorists as well! What is this world arrival to? Would you know what to do?

You may be thinking, "Well, I'll just get a gun!" Unfortunately, real-world tests have shown that whole , weapons (or other "self-defense" products) are often ineffective when it comes to self-defense. Why?

Self Defense

There are many factors that contribute, but the main think weapons are ineffective is, if the weapon is not in your hand at the occasion of attack, you will never get the opportunity to use it! But, the law does not allow you to walk around with a gun in your hand, and most studies show that citizen soon forget to carry the various types of self-protection devices they purchase.

Self Defense Weapons - What Is The Best Weapon For Self Defense?

Even if you have a stun gun or pepper spray in your purse or pocket, if caught by surprise, you won't have a opportunity to get it out before you get decked! Mace does you no good if it is still in the purse that just got snatched out of your hand! Tests prove that 90% of the time, you will never get the opportunity to reach for your weapon before you are hurt too severely to use it.

Fbi statistics and Police reports from all over the country show that in more than half of all instances where the victim was able to get to a "weapon" (usually sprays are mentioned), the attacker knocked it out of their hand before they could use it. Police files are filled with tens of thousands of incidents of weapons taken away from the victim and used against them! It is estimated that almost one third of all gunshot victims are shot with their own gun! The figures are even higher when it comes to stun-guns and sprays.

This doesn't even include all of the incidences where the victim shoots themselves! Accidental discharge is the prominent cause of gunshot wounds in both crime and non-crime reports. You may think that wouldn't happen to you, but the reports prove that it happens to even experienced gun owners.

I know of a Police officer, even after whole training , the first time he tried to use Mace against an unruly suspect, ended up spraying himself.

Unfortunately, most citizen have little or no training as to the safe and allowable use of the weapons in their possession. Inadequate, or even improper training is the prominent cause of accidental discharge enthralling guns, stun-guns and sprays. What do you think will happen when they endeavor to use that weapon under the stress of a real attack?

There are categorically millions of incidents reported where the victim couldn't get the weapon to work at all, mainly because of inadequate training! Even the most basic theory of weapon usage are often overlooked by owners. The figures are stunning (pun intended) of the whole of incidents of stun guns that didn't work when needed because of dead batteries!

There are thousands upon thousands of reports of guns that wouldn't fire because the protection was on, and the user didn't know, forgot, or was too panicked to figure it out in time. In at least one incident I am aware of, the victim couldn't get his weapon to fire before the criminal took it away from him. Lucky for him, the criminal couldn't figure it out either.

Defective or Fraudulent Products

I'm sure you have purchased products that didn't quite work as advertised. How can you be sure that the pepper spray you buy will work as well as advertised, if at all? How will you test it? Spray yourself? Spray a friend? We're not talking about perfume! I doubt you will get any volunteers to help you.

When the criminal attacks, it is too late to find out that the pepper spray is categorically just vinegar, or that the 10 million volt stun-gun doesn't deliver much more of a shock than shuffling over the rug and touching a doorknob.

If you buy a police radar detector that is guaranteed to work, but doesn't, the consequent is a speeding ticket. If you buy "self-protection weapons" that don't work, the consequent can be severe injury or even death. Relying on man else's certify is only a false sense of protection that will only have bad results!

If you are serious about Self-Protection, your best self defense weapon is your mind . If you think about what has just been discussed, you will perceive that 'weapons' will only help you in ideal situations, and even then, you need to keep a clear head to be able to use them properly.

But, crime doesn't happen in ideal situations!

Being able to think clearly, and knowing what to do, is your best weapon when it comes to self-defense. Second best is being able to use your feet. Now, that doesn't mean to start kicking! It means that at the first sign of trouble, you need to Run! fly is always a much good self-defense tactic than getting into a struggle or a fight.

However, if you can't get away, your body is your best self-defense weapon! Since you cannot always have a weapon in your hand, it is considerable that you know how to defend yourself without weapons. But mindless flailing against an attacker does you no good at all. You need to learn the most vulnerable points on the human body. But even that isn't sufficient if you don't know the most effective ways to attack them. You need to learn how to kick, not just where to kick.

Everyone should at least take a basic self-defense procedure .

What about Martial Arts?

Traditional Martial Arts are great for disciple, self-confidence, and exercise. They can help to yield the spoton mindset needed when faced with a self-defense situation. But it usually takes several years to come to be proficient in the more complex techniques.

If you have the time to commit to a long-term training program, by all means, a martial art will provide the most whole training. However, just as in choosing a self-defense weapon, you must do your homework before choosing a martial arts program. Many don't deliver the whole training they promise, and most don't train you for realistic self-defense.

Far too many martial arts programs focus greatly on sports and competition. Sports and competition oriented martial arts are worthless as self-defense. They teach you to consequent rules, and for the most part, there are no rules in a road fight. If you are conditioned to consequent the rules, you can't do what is considerable in a perilous situation. In fact, you will probably do the wrong thing, and get yourself hurt or even killed.

Seek out a training program that focuses almost exclusively on realistic self-defense scenario training.

Knowing how to deal with yourself when confronted with violence is your only assurance against becoming a victim, or just someone else statistic in a police report. You have car insurance, home-owner's insurance, life insurance, health insurance...

What assurance do you have against being the victim of a violent crime? That type of assurance is only ready straight through allowable training. A long-term self-defense program offers the most whole training, and therefore, the best opportunity to learn to deal with almost any situation that may occur. However, if you don't have the time to commit to a long-term program, at least some form of weaponless self-defense training is good than none.

Summary

If you are serious about self-protection, your best bet is to first learn weaponless self-defense. Then, if you still want to purchase a weapon, do your homework before choosing the best weapon for you, and don't just read the instructions that come with it and think you are ready to use it.

  • Take a class on how to use it effectively, how to deal with it safely, and how to enunciate it so it works when you need it.
  • Take regular refresher courses so you don't forget anything about the weapon.
  • Follow all maintenance procedures on a regular basis.

Your best bet is to learn weaponless self-defense and get the best weapon for you. Remember, you will never feel safe until you have all the tools considerable for self-protection. And the most prominent weapon of all is your own mind and body!

Women's Self-Defense Classes - The Fallacy of Women's Self Defense

There are many who say women learn self-defense best in an exclusively women-only environment. The so-called "experts" say it is less intimidating if women don't have to compete with the men, or, it is easier (more comfortable) to discuss subjects like rape without men present. So, the new trend in self-defense programs is "Women's Self Defense" classes.

I don't agree with this line of reasoning, because the phenomenal evidence suggests that this is the wrong approach. I can't tell you how many times I have heard, "I took a women's self-defense course once. But, I went home and tried some of the stuff on my husband (or boyfriend), and it didn't work!"

Self Defense

There is nothing more confidence-shattering than to spend the time learning all the techniques and starting to feel good about yourself, only to have the bubble burst the first time you try out your new-found skills. Women then begin to feel there is nothing they can do to safe themselves when they can't even make it work against man who isn't actually trying to hurt them.

Women's Self-Defense Classes - The Fallacy of Women's Self Defense

The real shame is when man is actually attacked, and after repeated attempts, can't make their self-defense techniques work. At that point, they naturally give up, and won't fight back no matter what. I can only imagine that man in that situation would look back on the time or money spent for self-defense classes and feel that they had been victimized twice!

Why "Women's Self Defense" Programs Don't Work!

Most of the habitancy who take my self-defense classes are women. Sometimes, I even have a class that is all women. However, that is by coincidence, not design. Women who sign up for my classes know that there may be both men and women in the class. Either there are actually men in the class is not important, after all, I am instructing the class, so there is all the time at least one man in the class.

The point is, if a woman is so intimidated by men, that she will not even take a self-defense class with men, she will never survive an attack by a man. Why? Because "intimidation" is just other word for fear. Until she can prove to herself the techniques work on a man, she has done nothing to help her get over her fear of men.

If she is ever attacked, it will probably be by a man! If she hasn't gotten over her fear of men, she will immediately panic, no matter what she has learned. If she hasn't learned how to deal with the bigger, stronger, more aggressive male, she will not understand how the dynamics of the situation will turn in the real world!

Women Must practice self-defense techniques against a man! Otherwise, how will she know they work against a man? This is what we call "realistic scenario training" (more about this later). If she has only practiced self-defense techniques with other women, she gets a false sense of safety that her techniques will work in the real world. But, an even bigger problem is that most of what is taught in these so-called "women's self-defense" classes wouldn't work anyway!

Poor Teaching Methods

Much of what is taught as "women's self-defense" is not only ineffectual, but insulting as well. Courses intended only for women assume they are weak, less capable of defending themselves, and therefore need different methods from men to counteract violence. Women have been told to "yell 'Fire', carry a hat pin or umbrella to jab at him, do something vulgar to gross him out, like tell him you have Vd." If any of that junk worked, we'd be teaching men to do the same thing.

The following sample of bad advice still shows up in high schools and women's self-defense courses:

"Confrontation all the time makes all worse. Don't react-it might be an overreaction. Don't add to the violence by becoming violent yourself. Don't make him mad. Trying to flee risks escalating the problem."

These ideas are wishful thinking or blind optimism. Touch at real crime scenes teaches you something very different.

Imagine if the percentages of women and men raped were 50-50 instead of 98 percent women and 2 percent men. [Outside of prison, those are the true percentages.] Now imagine man telling men, "Don't overreact to rape, guys. Go along with his demands so you won't be hurt." I think you can see there might be a double thorough that is fully unfair to women.

Doing Nothing

Doing nothing against a violent attack is the biggest risk of all because it makes resistance and flee later far more difficult. Worse, statistics show it actually increases the likelihood that violence will escalate, especially when the crime is rape. The most profound example animated resisting (doing something) versus submitting (doing nothing) was a Department of Justice study of rape published in 1985:

  • Rapists do not usually pre-arm themselves with weapons. Only 23 percent of 1.6 million cases studied complicated knives or guns. [The major exception to this are rapists who break into a residence; 96 percent grab a knife from the kitchen.]
  • Approximately 51 percent of women resisted in some form, fluctuating from screaming to fleeing, to fighting back; the remaining 49 percent did nothing.
  • When broken down in the middle of resistance or submission, there was only an growth of two percent in the injury level to the women who resisted.

Yes, there is all the time a risk complicated in fighting back, but there is just as much risk in doing nothing. If you face a rapist and do nothing, he'll rape you. If you face an armed criminal forcing you into his car and do nothing, he'll kidnap you. The "do-nothing" group believes that in doing nothing, they risk nothing.

Doers, in contrast, have easy and direct reasons for taking action: "If I don't do something fast, it's going to get worse."

False Claims

Another problem is the false sense of safety given by unsubstantiated claims. One direct-mail women's safety expedient provides an "instant and easy self-defense" video for women.... "Can you point your finger?... Can you raise your hand?... If your talk is yes, you can abruptly flee whatever from rape to severe attacks.... It's quick and easy." The stock being mentioned here, pepper spray, roughly never works this way in the real world.

One television commercial for a women's self-defense program promises "two-minute, guaranteed knockout using your feet. When your assailant tries to grab you, use the heel of your shoe to attack into his head over and over." Could you actually learn to do this in two minutes? It takes years of training in karate or taekwondo to learn to effectively kick man in the head, and even then, it's a risky move. It's just a marketing ploy to get your money.

If you buy a police radar detector that is guaranteed to work, but doesn't, the ensue is a speeding ticket. If you pay for "self-defense classes" or videos that don't deliver as promised, the ensue can be severe injury or even death. Relying on man else's guarantee is only a false sense of safety that will only have bad results!

Anti-crime gadgets, and martial arts self-defense programs marketed to women, are often too simplistic and come with unrealistic guarantees. The fact is, surviving crime requires far more thinking toughness than corporal abilities. Size, weight, conditioning, and upper-body strength don't make the difference. If they did, a lot of men would be in deep trouble. Crime survival takes tough-minded thinking conditioning, the same for both men and women.

What Does Work

What works, as proved by the results of both police and troops testing, is "realistic scenario training". Scenario training consists of learning techniques, rehearsing them in realistic scenarios, and then visualizing these actions in your mind. It is a recipe used in many fields, from sports to law enforcement, troops to medicine.

Scenario training is a way of planning our responses. We do something similar every day in our quarterly lives. We plan what to say if the boss criticizes a article we've submitted, or how to appease our spouse if we've done something irritating. Often we actually recount the words we'll use, we do it constantly. It doesn't all the time get us what we want, but it gives us a best chance.

Face-to-face with violence, your first split-second problem is not what is he going to do, but, "what are you going to do?" Scenario training against violence answers that question at the right time... Before it happens. You can make mistakes and learn from them before it becomes a life or death situation! Scenario training to survive violent crime draws on real-life crime cases, which allows us to analyze our own mistakes, as well as the mistakes of others, learn from them, and decide how we will talk differently.

Without realistic scenario training, habitancy panic and ice up; they have no way to cut through the phenomenal fear that boxes them in during a crisis. Every person needs to train for the same scenarios, and everyone, men and women alike, need to train the same way: to produce the thinking toughness needed to survive a real attack!

Summary

This is the bottom line that must be adopted by every woman, every women's self-defense teacher, and every parent of a daughter: If the how-to-survive-violence technique and advice is not thorough to men, it's not thorough to women.

Knowing how to deal with yourself when confronted with violence is your only insurance against becoming a victim, or just other statistic in a police report. You have car insurance, home-owner's insurance, life insurance, health insurance...

What insurance do you have against being the victim of a violent crime? A long-term self-defense program offers the most allembracing training, and therefore, the best opportunity to learn to deal with roughly any situation that may occur. However, if you don't have the time to commit to a long-term program, at least some form of weaponless self-defense training is best than none.

But women Must practice techniques with Men! The idea that women can learn to defend themselves against men, without training with men, is naturally false.

Self Defence Techniques - Reasons Why You Should Learn Self Defense

In my opinion, everyone on the planet should learn self defence techniques. Not just women, men and children should learn them too. You should not reconsider this as a sign of weakness, but an occasion to protect yourself, loved ones and family members. While you may already reconsider yourself as being tough, keep in mind that there are plentifulness of crazy habitancy out-there.

Simply said, if a crazy person had made you a target, it doesn't matter how strong you might be, the crazy person is always going to win. If you have ever had the unfortunate experience of being around an individual that is truly unbalanced, I think you can actually chronicle to what I am saying.

Self Defense

No matter what you do, running, screaming, or hitting back, if you are dealing with a mentally unbalanced individual, they will do anyone they can to cause you harm, if that is what their intention is.

Self Defence Techniques - Reasons Why You Should Learn Self Defense

However, by learning self defence techniques, you will know the best way to preclude this kind of brutal assault. learning self defense is also excellent for kids. Because there are so many habitancy who are trying to hurt youngsters, it is indispensable to teach your them how to protect themselves in a hazardous situation.

Moreover, you will gain reliance if you learn self defense. While it is coarse sense that you should avoid situations where person could come up from behind you or try to harm you, it is good to know exactly what to do if the situation occurs.

It is leading to note that self defence techniques don't always work. However, just by having the basic knowledge, your chances of avoiding harm will be much greater than if you try to think of what you should do on the fly as you are being assaulted.

Self Defence Techniques - Reasons Why You Should Learn Self Defense

Self-Defense - 3 necessary Elements of a Good Self-Defense Stance

Almost everyone is well-known with the idea of the martial arts or self-defense stance. Every style or school of self-defense seems to have it's own unique forms or stances. Some are said to be derived from the movements and natural defenses of animals, while others seem to have been created at the whim of the system's creator.

Learning a martial art for aesthetic reasons, as in the case of those who simply like anything Japanese, Chinese, or for health and fitness motivations is great. But, if you're taking up the study of the martial arts or enrolling in a self-defense procedure for the purposes of developing the quality to protect yourself in a real-life street fighting situation, you must be very primary of all that you are being taught.

Self Defense

And, one of the first lessons you will encounter after joining a class, is the idea of the stance or defensive positioning. In the martial art of ninjutsu, also referred to as budo-taijutsu, the word used to refer to these stances or "positions of safety," is kamae (pronounced "come-eye"). While other styles of martial arts, like Aikido (pronounced "eye-key-doe" - not "a-kee-doe") use the same term, most karate-based martial systems use the word dachi (pronounced "dah-chee").

Self-Defense - 3 necessary Elements of a Good Self-Defense Stance

Regardless of the word used, or the way the body is formed to make each posture, you must keep in mind that when the law was being developed, the focus was on self-preservation - not seeing "cool." With that in mind, you must make sure that each stance or kamae that you're being taught and spending so much time learning, has 3 primary elements. These elements, or key points, vary with the intended use of the posture, but they are there in every good, solid, and efficient stance.

If all three elements are not present in any given self-defense stance, you either need to get clarification as to why, ask what's missing from your insight of it, or throw it away!

The 3 primary Elements of An efficient Self-Defense Stance

Most martial arts and self-defense systems have, at their foundation, a basic protective posture. Again, this stance can have many forms agreeing to the system, but it should have three qualities if you are to be able to trust using it in a life-saving, self-defense encounter with a real attacker bent on doing serious damage.

These 3 primary elements are:

1) generate and control the length in the middle of yourself and your attacker. The key to remember here is:

"If you control the distance, you control the fight."

2) The lead arm creates a shield or wall in the middle of you and your assailant. The primary strategic point here is that:

"If he can't hit you, he can't hurt you."

3) Blades (profiles, or turns) the body sideways to the attacker. The key idea here is:

"If he can't hurt you, he can't beat you."

Your quality to control these three vital, strategic elements with your body positioning...

The length in the middle of you and your opponent

Keeping your weapons "between" you and your attacker, and...

Controlling the placement of your own targets relative to your attacker's weapons

...will settle how much energy, effort, and attentiveness you'll have to put into your own self-defense.

So, remember this uncomplicated slogan that I learned from one of my own teachers:

"If he can't hit you, he can't hurt you. And, if he can't hurt you, he can't beat you."

This is a great way to remember the 3 key elements that make up a good self-defense stance. And remember, laying a allowable foundation for mastery is like construction a house. Without it, nothing else will stand up for very long. And the last thing you want, either house or self-defense training, is for all to come tumbling down when the storm comes!

Self-Defense - 3 necessary Elements of a Good Self-Defense Stance
